Just a glimpse of me...

My photo
Do you ever feel STUCK? In 2000, I began looking for answers to some tough questions in my life. I'd searched high & low and finally conceded to search the promises found in the Bible. Those promises have sustained & guided me through the loss of a parent, the struggle with anxiety & depression, the loss of a valued relationship and so much more! I've found joy amid the pain. And, I want to share it with you!

sunrise thoughts 30 October 2015

In high school I ran the hurdles - that's what they do to long-legged lanky tall girls. One might think that a tall, thin, young person would be able to jump over objects easily. But, in all honesty... I found it rather hard to get those long legs up fast enough & to stay up long enough to clear the hurdles. But, I hung in there and, with much practice, became pretty good at it.

As I was out this morning looking for
a few different sunrise shots to share, I thought about how this month had felt like one long competition for me. Not me competing with other writers at all. But, me competing with ME -- who happens to be one of my most dreaded competitors.

This was my 4th year to write with the #write31days community. Every year I set a goal to post something every single day. I set that goal again this year. But, this year I also set myself up. What does she mean by that... you're possibly asking?

Well, in the last weekend of September, I chose my subject, sunrise thoughts. I love sunrises & sunsets!! That would have been rather easy. But, then I made the crazy decision to free write every day AFTER I'd watched the sunrise on that day!

In looking back on things, it certainly would have been easier to pick one of the 1,986,429+ beautiful sunrise photos I've taken over the past 15-20 years and write a thought related to that pic. But NO... I chose to wait each day & see where my mind took me. (Another idea that is quite scary... if you know me well!!)

On day #30, I can honestly say that not one post was pre-planned. (Hmmmm... some of my readers might have guessed that.) But, I wanted to put myself out on a limb this year -- for some reason - and trust that the words would come. Well, I'm extremely close to the finish line. And, looking back on this as a competition, similar to running hurdles. I am reminding myself... even if you are almost there... even if your goals are almost met... even if you can SEE the finish line...
  • Finish strong!
  • Don't look back
  • Don't slow down
  • Don't get sloppy
  • Give it all you've got to the very end.
Who knows what I'll write about tomorrow :) But, tonight I am changing ONE MORE DAY, ONE MORE DAY, ONE MORE DAY!!!

PS The clouds totally hid the sun this morning. But, I still got some pretty okay shots.

  2. I love your dedication and the fact that you have mornings free to wander around and photograph, think and write! Pretty soon, I'll be going to work in the dark, and it's getting difficult to go running in the mornings so my exercise routine will have to change. Good for you for finishing strong!

    1. I've definitely had to put quite a few things on the back burner to go out each day. And, a few days I have literally run outside, snapped a shot & come back inside to get ready to head somewhere. But, it's been a great experience. I've enjoyed reading your posts - this month & before. Glad to connect with you!

  3. Well done! That is certainly a massive challenge to set yourself. I participated last year but didn't complete. My challenge to myself was a bit the opposite in being planned and scheduling posts to develop consistency. I also knew that there was no way to get a post up each day otherwise with all I had on in October. I can totally relate to feeling in competition with yourself.

  4. I have loved reading your spontaneous sunrise thoughts and your gorgeous pics. I think the fact that it was truly fresh writing each day made it extra special! I didn't do it this year but enjoyed it in yrs past.
