Just a glimpse of me...

Do you ever feel STUCK? In 2000, I began looking for answers to some tough questions in my life. I'd searched high & low and finally conceded to search the promises found in the Bible. Those promises have sustained & guided me through the loss of a parent, the struggle with anxiety & depression, the loss of a valued relationship and so much more! I've found joy amid the pain. And, I want to share it with you!

WAITING - #write31days 10-04-16

This free-writing and publishing what I’ve written when out of the country has been a bit of a challenge. AND, we are ONLY on Day 4. I’ve been blessed in a way by a “curse” that we experienced within the first few hours of our trip. Some of you know that we are a family in transition. We are beginning a journey serving in an Appalachian community in eastern Kentucky (where we reside 4-5 days a week in a small 4th floor apartment) while still having deep, deep roots in the land of stuckinindiana. Most of our ties to Indiana are strong chords of love for that area & the people there. One of our ties is more like a millstone around our necks. We shall herein refer to that as “the rental.”
God blessed us with a home in the middle of crop fields and cow pastures about 5 years ago. The home was more conveniently located to the LOML’s workplace in downtown Indy. The open spaces at the new place afforded to us just what I needed for my anxiety & depression and battle with the winter blues. God even sat us right beside a farm occupied with a sweet lady who loves to walk daily. (I need that for my health – physical, mental & spiritual.)

One part of our journey in the past 5 years has been that we never seemed to be able to sell the former home located about 25 minutes away from our new home. After a rather long time on the market with little to no bites of interest, the for-sale home turned into “the rental.” The LOML has been a champion at handling almost every issue we’ve had there. As many of you homeowners know, a second property that you’re wanting to unload always seems to need major repairs or major replacements before the property is off your books and on the books of another poor soul.

So… we are still praying for and waiting for that property to sell. On our first day to head out for a break, the copper plumbing pipes in “the rental” crawl space decided to develop a pin hole leak and flood the entire crawl space. So, when the LOML got that message just before we were to sail away to 8 days of no internet (aka peace, rest, relaxation especially for him), he made the decision to purchase an internet package to be able to manage that situation. We had planned to not do that… to just turn off our cellphones and sail away from our lives for a few days before we head into another stormy gale of business commitments and property management issues back at home the remainder of the month.

And so, we wait…
  • To hear back from the plumbers working on the repair at “the rental”
  • To hear back about work/business issues (now that the LOML is reachable)
  • For God to send a buyer for one of our 3 residences – “the rental”
  • To figure out when we will look for a permanent residence in Kentucky and list our beloved country home in Indiana for sale
  • To figure out what our daughter and the Little will do when we decide to make the move a permanent thing
And, I wait…
  • To get a small piece of the internet package to publish my daily posts and to sneak a message or two to friends & family who aren’t along with us for this journey.
All this waiting reminded me of a quote shared with me by a friend:
"Patience is not just the ability to wait;
it is how we act while we're waiting."
~ Joyce Meyer

My friend paired up the above quote with a scripture. Here are a few Believer Bonuses aka scriptures about patience:
  • Put on behavior marked by.... patience, which is tireless and long-suffering, and has the power to endure, whatever comes. Colossians 3:12 (Amplified)
  • "Imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised." Hebrews 6:12b
  • "Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised." Hebrews 10:36 NLT
  • "When life is heavy and hard to take, go off by yourself. Enter the silence. Bow in prayer. Wait for hope to appear. Don't run from trouble. Take it full-face." Lamentations 3:28-29
We all have to WAIT. Often the challenge is not to lose our minds, tempers, tongues, beliefs, etc. while we WAIT.
