The past two days has been laid back and very relaxed for
the LOML & I. When we’re separated from home, property, jobs and the
internet – for the most part – we seem to be more inclined to embrace a slower
pace. One of my favorite quotes from Ann Voskamp is…
"Hurry always empties a soul." ~ Ann Voskamp
In our normal day-to-day lives we seem to hurry from one task to another. We frantically chip away at our long list of tasks & assignments. We move through life at a rapid (and sometimes reckless) pace with blinders on to anything that’s not on our To Do List. We often become so focused on what we need to accomplish that we miss some huge blessings around us. We end our days feeling drained and empty.
Today we spent 6 hours with family members with practically no agenda. We sat by the sea. We watched people playing in the surf. We laughed. We talked. We reminisced about times in the past when we had traveled together. We talked of possible future plans to travel together again. We enjoyed a snack at a local beach restaurant while sitting just feet from the waves crashing to the shore.
Not one of us had to work on projects or make decisions for
our jobs. We used our free Wi-Fi at the restaurant to send messages to other family members &
friends who aren’t along with us.
The sun was hot – tropically HOT! The air was humid and
sultry. We were physically exhausted from the time in the sun. But, our souls
were full of the memories made today and of thanksgiving that we’d made the decision
to walk away from “normal life” for this short time to savor the time with
loved ones together.
When life starts spinning you around and you lose sight of
what’s really important… slow down a bit. Savor the moments. Your soul will be
refreshed and renewed.5 Minute Free-For-All #write31days 10-3-16 For Pete’s Sake, Please Slow Down!
