Just a glimpse of me...

My photo
Do you ever feel STUCK? In 2000, I began looking for answers to some tough questions in my life. I'd searched high & low and finally conceded to search the promises found in the Bible. Those promises have sustained & guided me through the loss of a parent, the struggle with anxiety & depression, the loss of a valued relationship and so much more! I've found joy amid the pain. And, I want to share it with you!

sunrise thoughts 22 October 2015

Temptation... yeah, that's what my first thought was THIS morning. Granted, it was about 2 hours from the actual time of sunrise when I awoke. But, it was my first thought. I was dead tired physically - having probably gotten less than 5 hours of sleep last night. And, at my advanced age,
5 hours is not enough!

I woke up with the huge temptation to just grab a few of my "old" sunrise pictures and create a sunrise thought for the day using them. Really... why not? After all, I've been taking & saving sunrise photos for years and years. I have tons of pictures of the sun coming up over the ocean. Why not go with those :)

Fighting, once again, the overachiever, people pleaser, rule follower, driven person type that I am, I sucked it up. I put on real clothes & headed out to the field to see what I'd get this morning. As I said, I was physically exhausted from a restless night. So, I did what any abnormal person would do. I grabbed one of the small patio chairs & took it out with me IN TO the field. I then sat down and waited to see the show :)

This morning I fought the feeling... the temptation to make no effort at all with my post photos. But, I also extended a little grace to my old, tired self... sitting comfortable in a deck chair as I snapped one shot after another (on the iPad - see yesterday's post) in the newly harvested cornfield. I was worn out physically as I walked out of my house early this morning. But sitting in that chair watching the changes as the sun approached, broke and rose over the horizon, I became energized mentally, emotionally & spiritually. My thoughts today...

It's good to make an effort sometimes when you don't really feel like it.

It's good to extend grace to yourself - not just those around you.

And, it's good to get outside - even if only for a few minutes!

  1. I felt your tiredness in this post. The struggle was real. And Indiana is certainly flat. But with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I used to think one could only appreciate a sunset from the beach, but my daughter went to college in Ohio and told me this is not so. And then I saw for myself she was right. I admire you for getting up this morning! The pics, as always, are gorgeous. And good job for giving grace with that lawn chair. :)

    1. Thanks so much for our kind words Ruthie! I was pleasantly surprised when we moved here from the coast of Florida that I fell in love with the sunrises so quickly :)

  3. Love those thoughts. It is so often the case that we are energised when we choose to do it anyway. Thanks for the reminder this morning.

    1. Ha ha ha :) Yep, I was so worn out!! My neighbors aren't the kind to be looking out in to the field at sunrise. They are usually already in the barns or on combines in the fields at this time of year. BUT, they must get a kick from time to time - out of seeing all the crazy things I do here!
