Just a glimpse of me...

My photo
Do you ever feel STUCK? In 2000, I began looking for answers to some tough questions in my life. I'd searched high & low and finally conceded to search the promises found in the Bible. Those promises have sustained & guided me through the loss of a parent, the struggle with anxiety & depression, the loss of a valued relationship and so much more! I've found joy amid the pain. And, I want to share it with you!

sunrise thoughts 23 October 2013

Today took a major turn when a family friend & I talked on the phone. He said that today would be a good day to ride along on the combine with him.

I managed to catch a few shots of the sun rising & then headed that way to hop on a combine for a 10+ hour day in the fields for me.

My sunrise thoughts had already taken form in my head for this post. But, there was no way to write them down - bouncing along in a huge combine & talking farm-talk with my friend. The thoughts that were penciled out in my head slowly faded & were replaced with new ones that took form as the day unfolded.

I took shots of the rising sun over acres of unharvested corn & listened as the farmer told me of his life during harvest and throughout the rest of the year. I asked questions - which were probably elementary to him. I was reminded of things I had heard as a young child growing up in a rural community. We shared a box lunch while on the combine. (There's no time for stopping - especially when rain threatens to approach in the coming hours.) I soaked in so much as we talked throughout the day.

The things I'd thought would happen today would not happen. And, I was reminded, once again, that...

When you say YES to one thing, you often say NO to another.

When you abruptly step away from what you thought you'd do for the day, some things you knew that you'd accomplish just don't happen. Thankfully there were no huge projects that had to be done on our property. And, thankfully I'd taken care of the animals already.

When I said yes to that invitation, I knew that I was saying no to my to do list and to writing my #write31days post early in the day. But, I also knew that there'd be opportunities that I normally don't get to have during the day.

I am quite happy that I made that choice today!

Some days are just not meant for following the schedule!
At the end of the day...
and you got nothing you planned

on that day!

  1. Very thoughtful, appreciated and well understood post...I too felt as though many of my questions were rather "elementary".. thankful for the loving, patient heart of my farmer who never finds my questions bothersome..he always answers and explains in great detail...perhaps because he intends to put me to work at some point..ha..had a great deal of fun sharing my new wealth of knowledge to my coworkers last week as we watch our beloved corn field behind our office being harvested...I was some kind of awesome for explaining how it all worked...:)

    1. Thanks Brandi... for reading & for commenting :) It's always great to be "some kind of awesome" :D

  2. I have fond memories of riding along as a child. There is no view on earth like the one from the middle of a corn field!
