Just a glimpse of me...

My photo
Do you ever feel STUCK? In 2000, I began looking for answers to some tough questions in my life. I'd searched high & low and finally conceded to search the promises found in the Bible. Those promises have sustained & guided me through the loss of a parent, the struggle with anxiety & depression, the loss of a valued relationship and so much more! I've found joy amid the pain. And, I want to share it with you!

sunrise thoughts 27 October 2015

Rainy days and Mondays always get me down. Do you remember those lyrics? The Carpenters... a brother & sister singing duo... was a group loved by my father. I remember going on family rides in the station wagon on Sunday afternoons & listening to them on an 8-track cassette tape. (Anyone remember those?!?!? And, did anyone else just ride around in the car with your family for entertainment??)

I often think of those words on Mondays or when it's raining - especially at the beginning of the day. Sometimes, I really relate to that melancholy feeling. But, truth be told, I kind of like Mondays & I kind of like rainy days. And, this morning I got a rainy day...

A rainy day... A chance to work on other things - besides the pressing "DO THIS OUTSIDE BEFORE THE WINTER HITS" List :) A chance to enjoy new highlights from the rain dripping from autumn foliage. A chance to put on a raincoat & boots as I tromp outside to do the required outside chores (for our 5 laying hens - golden comets). A chance to open doors & windows to breathe in the smell that ONLY rain & falling leaves & harvest can create. A chance to clean up the front porch autumn display which gets "redistributed" almost daily by the autumn winds circling into the covered porch. A chance to re-order my plans & goals for the day.

Chances... opportunities... new priorities.. all directed by what I woke up to today... A RAINY DAY :)

DON'T LET RAINY DAYS & MONDAYS GET YOU DOWN!!

  1. I enjoy rainy days if I don't have to go anywhere. :-) I like Mondays because, much as I love my family, it's nice to get back to my weekday routine and a little solitude.

    1. I'm the same way with snowy days Barbara! I love them -- if I don't have to drive anywhere. And, I'm the same as you. I love my family TONS. But, sometimes its nice to have a little quiet on Monday mornings too! Have a blessed day!!!!

  2. What a nice way your morning shaped up to be. Instead of being disgruntled by the fact that it is Monday and rainy, you made good and happy use of the change in direction.
I LOVE the smell of rain and leaves.
And I am old enough to remember 8 tracks, Sunday drives. and The Carpenters.

    1. Hooray for fellow ladies who share those memories :) It has felt good to be able to linger inside & do a few things around here. We are almost done with the #write31days challenge. I think I'm going to enjoy a little rest from that - although I have thoroughly enjoyed it. This is my 3rd year to do it. I think I already have chosen my topic for next year. AM I CRAZY!!!

    3. Ha ha ha ha! Susan Shipe... as my mom used to say all the time, "It takes one to know one!"

  3. I remember the song, the 8-tracks, the Sonday afternoon rides, all of it and I like Monday's and rainy days too! You've inspired me to go to the front porch and clean up a little. It is rainy here, windy, and there are cobwebs to knock down - where do they even come from so quickly!!!

    1. Seriously!! I am not a SPIDER FAN at all. Oh yeah, I know they serve a purpose. I just don't want to see them or see their webs all over the place. I actually have a draft post entitled "Keep Your Hand at the Level of Your Eye" about SPIDER WEBS in the country!!!

  4. Rainy Mondays are awesome! Great days to snug in and do heart and soul work. I cried buckets when Karen Carpenter died; what an amazing talent she had.

I love your attitude. You seem to be so good at taking lemons and turning into lemon meringue pie! :-)

    1. Mmmmmmmm.... PIE.... I love PIE!!! Thanks for stopping by Shelby! I still get sad when I hear her voice. I had a close friend who struggled with anorexia in the college years & nearly died from it. Life... it can be brutal! But, I am thankful for the HOPE that I have!!
