Just a glimpse of me...

Do you ever feel STUCK? In 2000, I began looking for answers to some tough questions in my life. I'd searched high & low and finally conceded to search the promises found in the Bible. Those promises have sustained & guided me through the loss of a parent, the struggle with anxiety & depression, the loss of a valued relationship and so much more! I've found joy amid the pain. And, I want to share it with you!

Lessons from a Child - 4th of July

Oh, trust me... it's been a season of blessings. But, it has also been a season of crazy schedules & planning & travel... and sometimes of stress. On a good day, I'm a home body. And, on the crazy days, it's even more magnified.

I love family time and celebrating special days with family. However, unlike most people, I usually prefer to do that at home :) Ask anyone in my family, HOME makes me HAPPY.

We tentatively made plans to join family in our nation's capital to celebrate the 4th. I know I would have loved it & had a great time. But, things worked out that we didn't go. And, as things began to calm down after the 2 recent family weddings, my plans for doing something big for the 4th of July didn't involved leaving home. I was still having problems getting back into the swing of things around the house... in the garden... in the flower beds...in the chicken coop... and everywhere else! I really needed the extra time to catch up. But, I still wanted to make some good, fun memories.

As usual, the LOML and our daughter came to the rescue... grocery shopping, picking up a few inexpensive fireworks, getting watermelon, a bonfire and s'mores ready, etc. The early part of the day was filled with tons of yard work. It's amazing how quickly 3+ acres can go back to being wild! As the day progressed, breaks were taking for swimming, blowing bubbles, and playing with the chickens. The evening brought a little grilling, eating watermelon, and enjoying sparklers and a few $5 fireworks. We sat by a bonfire & watched several neighboring cities' fireworks shows over the fields which surround us.

The celebration was a small, yet meaningful and memorable, family celebration.
The $5 fireworks were a huge hit with our "Little" - who is days away from being 2 1/2! What a great reminder to me to continue to celebrate the LITTLE things :)

I paired a pic which I took that night with the following reminder:
It doesn't take much to make a 2 year-old scream with joy. We could all learn a lesson from that.
Celebrate the LITTLE things friends!!!

  1. Oh yes! We ended up staying home for the 4th of July...except for going out for a late lunch/early dinner...THEN...my youngest daughter asked if we could watch the almost 1 year old while they took the 2 and 4 year olds to see fireworks at a friend's house...Yes! We could do that...and what fun we had just chillin' and watching "Christmas in July" movies on Hallmark!!

The simple things are the FUN things...I too enjoy them; but still also enjoy the family and friend things away from home!

    Thanks for sharing!
