Just a glimpse of me...

My photo
Do you ever feel STUCK? In 2000, I began looking for answers to some tough questions in my life. I'd searched high & low and finally conceded to search the promises found in the Bible. Those promises have sustained & guided me through the loss of a parent, the struggle with anxiety & depression, the loss of a valued relationship and so much more! I've found joy amid the pain. And, I want to share it with you!

What's the Body of Christ?

The church.... what is the church?  It's the BRIDE OF CHRIST, the BODY OF CHRIST.  What does God want for his bride/body/church?  He wants them to have the best & use what He has freely given to them to shine a light in this world in order to bring glory to Him.  Romans 12:4-12a describes the church...
"Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body (the church). We are all parts of His one body, and each of us has different work to do. And since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others. God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to do prophesy, speak out when you have faith that God is speaking through you. If your gift is that of serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, do a good job of teaching. If your gift is to encourage others, do it! If you have money, share it generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Don’t just pretend that you love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side of the good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord enthusiastically. Be glad for all God is planning for you."
Paul talks also of the church in Ephesians 1:19-23:
"I pray that you will begin to understand the incredible greatness of His power for us who believe in Him... the same power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him in the place of honor at God’s right hand... far above any ruler, or authority or power or leader or anything else in this world or in the world to come. And God has put all things under the authority of Christ, and He gave Him this authority for the benefit of the church... his body... filled by Christ, who fills everything everywhere with His presence."

I Don't Need Help!

Life is often difficult. And, I find myself wanting to figure things out on my own instead of asking God what to do. I want to figure out what's best. I've been through a lot. I've learned a lot. I've got this one covered God.

Yet, I'm reminded daily in God's Word that my dependence upon Him is where my strength lies.

When I read His Word, He is faithful to show me things... guide me... comfort me... strengthen me!

Let my heart cry be the words found in Psalm 119:59-60... "I pondered the direction of my life, and I turned to follow your statutes. I will hurry, without lingering, to obey your commands."

NOTE TO SELF:  Your energy needs to be spent on seeking God instead of trying to slay your own dragons!

Dreams of the Young & Old

A dream land of snow & sunshine  :)
In the words of "I Dreamed A Dream" from Les Miserables...
I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high
And life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die...
Before I was in kindergarten, I dreamed a dream...

A dream awakened me from sleep and is still as clear to me as if it happened yesterday. The dream was full of color and brought mystery while filling me with unexplainable peace and comfort. In the background of my dream, the song, "Open My Eyes That I May See" - written in 1895 by Clara H. Scott - played over & over.

Considering that I'm a preacher's kid (yep, a PK) and had probably heard that song at a recent revival or church service, it could have been for that reason alone that I heard the song. But, the images that went with that song in my dream will go with me from this earth into heaven. Those same images flooded my mind at the very moment my father sighed his last breath & entered into heaven as I sat beside him holding his hand!

From that young age until today, my very spirit is stirred when I hear that 1895 song & when I read the scripture found in Psalm 119:18,

"Open my eyes to see the wonderful truth in Your laws."

I dreamed a dream in time gone by... that will forever remind me of the love of God & the TRUTH found in His Word.  That truth is wonderful... and freeing... and comforting. Not a truth of condemnation. But a truth of hope, a new life & a rich future in Christ.

I want him to OPEN MY EYES daily to wonderful things God has for me :)  Lord, continue to allow me to dream dreams which bring me into your presence!
